Filming & Sound
Lighting is important. It is nice to have a gooseneck lamps (cheap ones at IKEA). Students work in teams of three to film: Director, Animator and Camera person).
Shoot straight down. Tape! Tape! Tape! Be sure to have lots of blue painters tape on hand and tape down the camera stand, the props board, extension cords, etc.
Once you have one filming station set up, have a team of students model the process of rotating through director, animator and photographer. They will need to communicate clearly, focus on tasks and be careful to not block the light sources or jostle the camera or sets.
Before you begin to photograph any sequence, photograph first a piece of paper with the students names and roles on it. That way, you will know whose images follow that marker photo.
NO IDLE HANDS!
Students groups who are not filming work on scripts, make movie posters, invitations for film screening, opening and closing credits.
Students can also make also shadow boxes to take their clay parts home in.
Sound
Once students have neatly written out their scripts and practiced, they can record in Audacity (freeware sound PC tool) or sound record in iMovies once the images are imported.
